Our Groomer
Danielle Lavoie made a big move from her home town of Lewiston, Maine to the Denver area in 2008. When we saw Danielle’s amazing skill and love of animals, we hired her right away!
Danielle graduated from Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts with her Associates Degree in Animal Care Management. While at Becker, Danielle focused her studies on laboratory management, grooming and obedience. She volunteered with Second Chance Animal Shelter, which provided the opportunity for Danielle to work for 16 weeks with a Labrador retriever mix, Teddy. Together they won the first place ribbon in agility at the school sponsored PetFest. Teddy was adopted that same day to a loving family.
Danielle is a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox and her Pembroke Welsh Corgi is appropriately named Fenway. She also has a pet rat, Amaretto. In her spare time, Danielle enjoys exploring downtown Denver and meeting new people.
Massage and Spa
Touch is a powerful form of non-verbal communication with dogs. Massage affects the entire body by enhancing the circulatory, muscular and nervous systems. Each session is specifically designed based upon the needs, activity level, and the long-term goals of your dog. There are different types of massage that are useful in solving a variety of problems:
Relaxation Massage is calming and its focus is on the nervous system. This is ideal for young animals as well as animals stressed due to fear or boredom.
Maintenance Massage is given on a regularly scheduled basis and keeps the muscular and skeletal structure fit and assists with good circulation and helps rid the body of toxins.
Post Injury/Post Surgical Massage is gentle and brief, usually given one day post injury/surgery. It is reassuring to the animal and helps to release toxin build-up.
About Our Massage Therapists
Barbara Maciejewski, CMT, CCMT
Barbara’s private practice, Balancing Touch, incorporates many of the techniques from the modalities of Swedish and deep-tissue massage and neuromuscular treatment. Each session is designed to address the specific needs of each canine client. Barbara’s clients’ companions seek out her help with the many muscular and skeletal imbalances caused by injury, surgery as well as the aging process. Kinesiology plays a major role during the assessment process. Through gait analysis, abnormalities in movement will reveal where compensations in the body may be taking place. This valuable information aids in the application of appropriate and effective bodywork. Barbara’s specialty and expertise in therapeutic rehabilitation massage has resulted in the detection of underlying skeletal or muscular issues that, upon referral to the canine’s veterinarian, have been diagnosed and appropriately addressed.
In addition to her private practice, Barbara is The Boulder College of Massage Therapy’s instructor of the four modules of the Canine Massage Certificate Program, the Introduction to Animal Massage elective for students in the 1000-hour massage therapy program and the Beginning Canine class offered to the general public. Barbara is the lead supervisor for three of The Boulder College of Massage Therapy’s Animal Program internships. Barbara is also a certified instructor of the Red Cross’ First Aid for Small Animals.
Barbara Maciejewski is a graduate of The Boulder College of Massage Therapy. In addition to completing the 1000-hour program of human massage therapy, she completed the college’s 100-hour Canine Certificate Program during the 1000-hour program, and is a certified canine massage therapist. Barbara’s love of dogs and her passion to improve their quality of life were the driving forces that led her to specialize in canine massage. The same benefits of improved health, wellness and well-being achieved through massage for humans can be a reality for canines throughout all stages of their lives.
